The Kwara State Association in the United Kingdom is the umbrella organisation uniting all sons and daughters of Kwara State origin including all their ethnic and cultural groupings. The Association aims to ensure that whenever and wherever appropriate, the welfare, views, and community interests of Kwara State indigenes in the United Kingdom are represented in a manner which is harmonious, organised, and coherent.

Thetwo-day event marking the 1st Convention of the Kwara State Association of Nigeria UK & Ireland kicked off at the Hilton London Metropole on Friday 12th October 2012 with an opening address from the Chairperson of the Association, Alhaja Afusat Abdulkadir-Ayo detailing the history of setting up the association, it aims and objectives and the theme of the convention. In her address, the Chairperson of Kwasang UK, spoke about the purpose of the convention which was well articulated in its theme “Contributing to the development of Kwara State through sustained engagement with Kwara State indigenes in the diaspora”. She stated that Kwasang UK want to engage with the government of the day to support in innovation and improving systems in Education and Business Development in the first instance and to partner with its sister organisation in the United States in the work they have already started in supporting the health sector in Kwara State. The Chairperson stated that Kwarans in the UK are looking for the opportunity to give back in a structured way and for government to support its members in their repatriation plans.
The Executive Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed at the 2-day convention responded with a speech on various developments taking place in the state, starting with business opportunities, agriculture development, mineral resources, infrastructures, hospitals, healthcare, education, schools and power generation. Other initiatives already in process within the state are: entrepreneurial education, clinic on wheels, public-private partnership of major projects, roads development, provision of clean water for all and improved power generation. His Excellency outlined that Kwara State is open for business and gladly invited the Diaspora to come and make their investment in the state.
The Education and Youth Development Seminar covered topics such as: curriculum review on basic education and secondary level education including teacher training colleges, skill training and apprenticeship, school inspections and rating, student exchange programme, adoption of schools in Kwara State, student exchange programme, other projects and initiatives that KWASANG UK and KWARA State government can work on together as part of the engagement agenda.
The Business and Investment Forum: The forum was attended by Kwara State Indigenes and potential investors from far and wide including South Africa. The panel discussed various ways in which the business men and women in Diaspora can interact with the State Government. The Business Forum also had discussions on the public sector i.e. local government administration, IGR, performance measurement and benchmarking. The Governor His Excellency Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed presented the Kwara State Agricultural Modernisation Masterplan (June 2012 – May 2017), to the Chairperson of Kwasang UK who welcome the Government’s plan to use agriculture to empower investors to support the creation of wealth in Kwara State.
The Youth Forum gave an opportunity for the youth of Kwara State in the diaspora to interact with His Excellency, ask questions and find out how they can contribute to the future of youth development in the state.
The Gala night was a social event where Eminent Senior citizen and members of Kwasang UK were honoured for their contribution to the development of the State. The Senate Leader in the Second Republic, Late Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki, the first Military Governor of old Kwara State, Chief (Brigadier-General) David Bamigboye(Rtd) and two business icons of Kwara State origin, Prince Samuel Adedoyin and Chief Emmanuel Adesoye were among prominent Nigerians honoured by the Kwara State Association of Nigeria, United Kingdom and Ireland (KWASANG UK) for their contributions to the development of the State. Speaking at the occasion, the Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed described the awardees as prominent Kwarans who have made immeasurable contributions to the growth and development of the State.
At the end of the 2-day convention, it was agreed
1. That a secretariat with robust and achievable terms of reference, made up of selected Kwara State Government Officials and KWASANG UK members is created to work on the engagement agenda (to cover Education, Youth Development, Business Development and Investment) between the two parties.
2. That Kwara State Government will provide support to members of KWASANG UK and agencies working on behalf of KWASANG UK to deliver any of the agreed interventions to support the engagement agenda.
